Educational Programs

A model among educational programs in our industry is the ConestogaTile Tile School.  It was created in 1984 primarily for the training of tile setters.

In 1992, course offerings expanded to include customer sales personnel.  The course called CT 101 "An Introduction to the Tile Industry" is designed to teach the basics of ceramic tile so that sales people will have the knowledge to effectively communicate with the consumer.

Periodic seminars are held on tile installation and other industry related topics by manufacturers and the National Association of Tile Contractors (NTCA).  "Lunch Box Seminars" are often held covering topics specifically designed for architects and design professionals.  Check our monthly and quarterly newsletters, TrailBlazer and SpecBlazer, for upcoming educational opportunities.

Conestoga Tile's Architectural Services Department has also developed "Continuing Educational Programs" certified by the American Institute of Architects (AIA).  By attending these programs, architects receive CES credits in order to maintain their professional standing.

Innovations in Customizing Ceramic Tile Installations
Innovative installation procedures, incorporating custom shaped ceramic tiles and water-jet designed ceramic tiles. Specification procedures utilizing dimensional compatibility.
Ceramic Tile Failures:  How They Occur, How To Prevent
Presenter is a Certified Ceramic Tile Consultant (CTC). Ceramic Tile Failures as well as the Causes & reasons are discussed. Presenter addresses proper specification of expansion joints, and the use of cleavage membranes for crack isolation and post tensioned, light-weight suspended concrete slabs. He discusses proper trowel use for size of tile being installed. He also discusses ADA requirements and issues concerning ASTM - C1028 testing for slip resistance.
Specifying Ceramic Tile, CCS Certified
How to properly specify ceramic tile using CSI format. Presenter is a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS). Addresses ADA issues re: slip/fall situations; addresses installation issues re: waterproof membranes, latex portland cement mortars & grouts; addresses proper use of ANSI standards for ceramic tile and the installation of ceramic tile.
Ceramic Tile Failures:  Top 5 Reasons
A Certified Ceramic Tile Consultant (CTC) and Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) will discuss issues concerning Hollow Sounding Tiles, Cracked Tiles and/or Grout, General Workmanship Failures, Use of Improper Tile-Setting Materials, and Moisture Damaged caused by Mold and/or Mildew
Ceramic Tile & The ADA: Coefficient of Friction Concerns
A Certified Ceramic Tile Consultant (CTC) and Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) will address issues concerning the American with Disabilities Act of 1990 and how it relates to Ceramic Tile. Topics will also include ASTM C1028 testing; Understanding "Coefficient of Friction"; Liability Considerations; Understanding Tile Types; and Final Product Selection
Toxic Mold & The Ceramic Tile and Stone Industry
Toxic Mold may well be the Asbestos of the New Millennium. Architects will learn about Toxic Mold and the Health Effects and Symptoms Associated with Mold Exposure. They will learn about Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings. The Effects of Mold on Ceramic Tile and Natural Stone Installations will be Discussed. Mold Control by Controlling Moisture will be offered as a Viable Solution
Proper Specs to Ensure Successful Tile & Stone Installations
This presentation includes discussions on proper specifications to avoid installation failures. Among issues discussed are: specifying expansion/control joints and cleavage membranes. Problematic substrates like post tension, light weight suspended slabs, and radiant heated floors will be addressed. Proper trowel size for larger tiles is discussed along with ANSI and ASTM standards. Proper specifying to meet ADA ASTM_C1028 requirements is also addressed.
Ceramic Tile Specifications To Eliminate Compromising Design
The Speaker is a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) and Certified Ceramic Tile Consultant (CTC). This power point presentation (lunch box seminar) is centered around how to write proper ceramic tile specifications utilizing the TCA Handbook and ANSI Standard Manual. This will help eliminate compromising your designs and "value engineering" your construction projects with regards to the use of ceramic tile installation materials and/or methods.
Proper Preparation and ANSI Requirements for Thin-Set Tile
Seminar is conducted by a Certified Ceramic Tile Consultant and a Certified Construction Specifier. Howard Pryor,CCS CTC, has 19 years experience in the Ceramic Tile Industry. He will be discussing the Proper Preparation of Substrates for accepting Ceramic Tile Installations. Participants will also gain current Knowledge of TCA Handbook Methods and ANSI Installation and Ceramic Tile Standards. Areas of discussion will additionally include: Concrete Preparation, Curing Compounds, Unsuitable and Questionable Substrates.
